About This Item
London: Thomas Cautley Newby, Publisher, 1858 Second Edition. xxviii, 405 pp. Octavo. Bound in 19th century half calf and marbled boards. Gilt title and simple decoration on spine. Original endpapers. Two small library blind stamps on front illustration and title page. Folding coloured map. A slightly x-library copy otherwise a very nice copy of a rare item. Lowther 61 Lowther states A glowing description of the early history and development of British Columbia. The author arrived in Victoria in June of 1858 to prospect for gold on the Fraser River. It seems there not have been a first edition of the book issued. The folding map must be one of the earliest maps showing the gold fields or where they were thought to be. Rare. This is the only copy of the book I have ever seen! Prime British Columbia history. 1858
