Das Werk erfreute sich zeitgenössisch großer Beliebtheit, bis 1869 erschienen allein 8 Londoner Auflagen. Mit beiliegendem Brief des Verfassers auf Briefpapier mit Adressvordruck des Büros der Literaturzeitschrift "The Athenaeum" in London, datiert "August 27 1868". Dixon war seit 1853 Herausgeber der Zeitschrift. Mit einigen Kapiteln über die Mormonen in Salt Lake City. First edition. Account of the journey to America by the british journalist William Hepworth Dixon (1821-1879). With a handwritten letter on letter-paper with adress form of the "Athenaeum Office" in London. Dixon became editor of the "Athenaeum" magazine in 1853. Large chapters (f. e. "The Mormon Theatre", "The temple", "Settlement in Utha" "Mormon light") on Utah and Mormonism, with emphasis on Mormon marriage customs and polygamy.
