About This Item
New York,: Dell Publishing Co.,, 1965. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Soft cover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Stated First printing-Laurel Edition- Tight and unmarked with light crease on cover.More than a half-century ago the naturalist Farley Mowat was sent to investigate why wolves were killing arctic caribou. Mowat's account of the summer he lived in the frozen tundra alone -- studying the wolf population and developing a deep affection for the wolves (who were of no threat to caribou or man) -- is today celebrated as a classic of nature writing, at once a tale of remarkable adventures and indelible record of myths and magic of wolves.
Synopsis
Never Cry Wolf is a book by Canadian author Farley Mowat, first published in 1963 by McClelland and Stewart. It was adapted into a moderately successful movie of the same name in 1983. It has been credited for dramatically changing the public image of the animal to a more positive one. It is presented as a first-person narrative of Mowat's research into the nature of the Arctic Wolf; however, there is some debate over how much of the book is indeed factual.
Reviews
On Aug 28 2016, a reader said:
Gripping narrative of a professional biologist sent to the arctic by Canada's wildlife Service to study wolves
which I later heard was made into a movie. The twist at the end is unforgettable.
