About This Item
Washington: Government Printing Office. Very Good. 1860. First Edition. Removed Document. 36th Congress, House Report No. 446; 11 pages; Removed document, clean, unmarked, complete. OCLC 1065584683 Samuel G. Daily contesting the right of Experience Estabrook to a seat in the 36th Congress as delegate representing the Territory of Nebraska. The original vote tally indicated Estabrook won by a majority of 300 votes. An investigation and audit revealed a total of 429 illegal votes for Estabrook and a total of 10 illegal votes for Daily. Consequently, the committee resolved that Experience Estabrook was not entitled to the congressional seat and that Samuel G. Daily was entitled to such. Experience Estabrook (1813 1894) was an American attorney and legal administrator. He was the 3rd Attorney General of Wisconsin and the 1st United States Attorney for the Nebraska Territory. Samuel Gordon Daily (1823 1866) was a Congressional Delegate from the Territory of Nebraska. Daily was a radical and outspoken abolitionist. He also introduced the first bill to abolish slavery in the Territory. The bill failed. .
