Each volume contains hundreds of black and white plates and small engravings, as well as some chromolithograph plates. Tight bindings. Vol. I - Invertebrates, Crustacea, and Insects. Color plates of Mayflies, Starfish & Worms, and Hercules Beetle. Vol. II - Fishes, Reptiles, and Birds. Color plates of Grey Kingfisher, Paradise Fish, Crocodiles, Cranes, and Birds of Paradise. Vol. III - Mammals and The Natural History of Man, Part One. Color plates of Lion, Chimpanzee, Arabs. Vol. IV - The Natural History of Man, Part Two. Color plate of Eskimos. A handsome, if heavy, set. The black and white plates of the invertebrates are particularly lovely.
