Gorgeous tree calf binding on this copy (Volume 1 only) of Dufief's groundbreaking tome for a new system of teaching the French language to English pupils. Dufief (1776-1834) was a French National who emigrated to England and then America, where he became an educator, bookseller, author, and correspondent with many notable people of the time such as Thomas Jefferson and Joseph Priestley.
