Map endpapers. xi+ 428 pp. with index. Illustrated with drawings and silhouettes by Henry Bigbee Kane. Fine inoriignal dust jacket, about very good, with rubbing to the extremities and folds and fade to the spine strip. Considered one of the classic and cornerstone New York City history books, a look at the myriad forms of plant and animal life to be found within the territorial limits of the City as well as Kieran's perosnal relflections and reminiscences over 50 years. Kieran developed his book not for the scientist or scholar but for the "sidewalk naturalist". Here he reflects on fish, insects, repties, amphibians, plants, flowers, trees and shrubs, mammals, sea birds. shore birds and waterfowl etc.
