Minor edge and corner wear; lightly scuffed and scratched; 578 is written in ink in the upper corner of the front of the wrapper; spine is lightly creased; some shelf wear; small tear in the base of the front of the wrapper; overall a nice used first edition! Blue wrapper with black lettering on the front and spine. 362 very clean unmarked and uncreased historical and informative pages nicely enhanced by black and white photographs and illustrations! 2 foldout maps in a pouch attached to the inner rear cover. "At no time has the need for conservation of our natural resources been as apparent as it is at present. We have seen the wasteful destruction of our most basic resource, the soil, take place at an ever-increasing rate within a comparatively short span of years. The original vegetation of the country has in large part been removed, and as a consequence of this, not only has soil become increasingly subject to erosion, but wildlife, being dependent on vegetation for existence, has also become severely depleted." ---- from the Introduction..
