1943, First Edition. Unique hand drawn PREVIOUSLY UNSEEN Map of the Country from Austin to El Paso, (1851) Sketch and Observations Taken by F. B. E. Browne; map image size 14.5 x 8.5 inches. The map was furnished to Professor Walter P. Webb by E. N. Noyes of Dallas, Texas. Mr. Noyes had only a photostat. The map is dated September 23, 1851. The article in the quarterly presents several theories on how the map came to be made by Browne. It includes the route of an Indian Trail from Arkansas to Chihuahua. (There is minor loss at folds).
In the same issue appears an essay by J. W. Williams THE NATIONAL ROAD OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS with 2 single, full page maps of the North-Central area of Texas showing the route of the National Road of the Republic. There are many details on the mapping of the various counties the road passed through and A Partial Map of Dallas showing the Route of the National Road and The Old Preston-Austin Road.
Anyone with an interest in the land these maps discuss, particularly the mapping of the various counties The National Road passed thgough will find this issue of interest.
