About This Item
Washington, DC: National Geographic Society, 1943. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Very Good. See scans and description. Washington, DC: The National Geographic Society,1943. The January,1943 issue, Volume LXXXIII, Number One. Quarto, perfect-bound wraps, 142 numbered pages (i.e., pp 1-142 for the semi-annual volume, as per the monthly custom of the day), plus 18 pages of very engaging vintage ads at the beginning and end, many of those in color and many, in this era, touting wartime manufacturers; 160 pp. total. Plenty of both color and black and white photos herein. See summary of illustrations on cover scan. Very Good, due to ripple abrasion on rear cover (see rear cover scan); otherwise would be Near Fine, with just light dusting toward top and at top page edges. See all scans. A high grade example, and as such hard to replace. See all scans. In sealed protection, on premises, ready to ship. Inside are pieces on Glass Goes to Town; From Sand to Seer; American Bombers Attacking from Australia; War in the Gilbert Islands; Dogs Join Up; Eastward From Gibraltar. Vintage Spam ad with a Spamwich recipes on the back cover, and, as noted, plenty of other vintage ads inside - those being, somehow, always among my favorites offerings from NG. Scarcer issue than many others of the era, particularly in this condition. Ships in a new, sturdy, protective box, of course; not a bag. LNG5
