About This Item
New York: National Aniline & Chemical Co. Incorporated. Cloth. Very Good. N.d., circa 1920.s. 4to. 23 by 14.5 cm. Six panels, which open up, leporello or concertina style, containing 76 color strips, each of which is pasted down onto the leaf below. Color samples are numbered 1 to 76, with 14 per page, the last page containing the final six. Tissue guard of glassine covers each leaf. Inside front cover with a woodcut illustration of the company's headquarters which were located at 40 Rector Street in downtown New York. As the building first opened in 1921, this serves as benchmark for the earliest possible date of the catalogue's issuance. Since the drawing also shows horse-drawn carts, something that would die out in the 1930s, we are fairly confident of our 1920s dating. The building is still standing and serving as an office building today. Scarce, with only one copy listed on OCLC First Search -- Nat. Agr. Lib., and Condition: glassine tissue guards are creased and wrinkled, as inevitable from opening and closing and pulling out the panels. Light foxing on the cloth bands joining the panels. Light abrasion in upper margin of inside front cover. Light general wear to the binding, etc.
