NY: J. & J. Harper, 1827. First edition. 12mo., 264 pp., errata; old manuscript notes to serve as an index on the leaf following the text. Publisher's original tan paper over boards, with cloth spine and printed paper title label affixed to the spine. Engraved bookplate of the Boston Public Library affixed to the front pastedown, with their release stamp and date on the copyright page, no other library markings; also the engraved bookplate of Herman Le Roy Edgar. Text block shows occasional foxing; binding is moderately soiled and rubbed. In all, a very good copy. Howes J-158; Ayer Collection No. 165; Streeter Sale 1366 " One of the most interesting Indian captivities. The author and three other survivors of an Indian attack on the Ohio River were taken to Lake Erie (Sandusky) where an Indian trader, one Duchouquet, secured their release. On his return Johnston was questioned by Washington about British forces at Detroit.
