San Francisco: McGowan, Edward. Good with no dust jacket. 1917. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Rebound with tan boards and new endpapers. Title gilt on spine and top edge gilt. Light soiling on boards and bottom edge. Diagonal crease on first three endpapers. Front gutter cracking but binding is tight. Introduction and p. 53 have been stamped "The Society of California Pioneers, Not To Be Taken Away," but does not effect content. Otherwise, clean interior. Limited edition, 35/200. It was reprinted by Thomas C. Russell at his private press in 1917. And as stated on title page, this narrative was "printed line for line, page for page, from the original edition, published by the author in 1857, complete, with reproductions, in facsimile, of the original illustrations, cover-page title and title-page." A gripping account of Edward McGowan's adventures and perils while persecuted by the San Francisco Vigilance Committee by who he was indicted for his involvement in the killing of James King in 1856.
