New York: T. And J. Swords, 1795. First American Edition. Small Octavo. Containing Various Circumstances of the Embassy, with Accounts of Customs and Manners of the Chinese; and a description of the country, Towns, Cities, etc. The author has also added the journal of the Lion and Hindostan from Chusan to Canton, as it contains much curious and useful information relating to the navigation of a long range of the coasts of China not generally known during this period and may have been important to future voyages. xxiv, 328pp. with pages xiv-xvi containig a list of the gentlemen who composed the retinue of Earl Macartney, their specific jobs, and those who had died during the voyage, and includes a (2) page glossary of Chinese words, bound in original full calf, black morocco spine label gilt, flat spine ruled in gilt, corners worn, upper and lower joints split but not broken through, no foxing just a bit of overall toning. A very good copy of this very interesting narrative which he begins from England to China and describes those countries in-between.
