About This Item

London: John C. Nimmo Ltd. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1903. 1st Thus. Hardcover. 12 Vols in TOTAL - ALL UNIFORM hardback books in blue cloth with bright gilt borderd compartments with gilt fleur-de-lys decoration and gilt titling to the spine. Some light wear to the extremities only. All hinges secure and tight. 'The Wandering Jew' is COMPLETE in six volumes and 'The Mysteries of Paris' is also COMPLETE in six volumes. The set is Ex-REFERENCE Library, with fewer library indications, and ALL books have a (removable) Library Label on each front pastedown. (I have removed these labels from this library before, using a proprietory label remover, and removed the oval mauve stamps too with care and a good eraser - but it's all very time consuming! ). Each etching has a small circular /oval (circa 1.5 cms x 2 cms) mauve library stamp on the reverse of the print, a similar small stamp on the reverse of the T/P, and at the end of the book. In some of the volumes a larger rectangular 'Discarded from Stock' stamp appears on an endpaper/half title or on the Library label. Also traces of what was likely old white numbers at the foot of the spines of the 6 volunmes containing 'The Wandering Jew' ONLY. The 6 'Mysteries...' are clean and unmarked. These traces have been 'blued over' and the set looks good on the shelf, but it is still obvious that something has been 'restored'/coloured on that bottom segment of those 6 volumes. As far as I can see the set is free of any other Library marks. Generaly Very Clean Tight and Bright. SEE IMAGES. The Wandering Jew has 28 coloured 'etchings' in total: - Volume 1 = 5 illus - 1 by Poiteau, 3 by Adrian Marcel, 1 by Mercier. Volume 2 = 5 illus - 1 by Poiteau, 3 by Adrian Marcel, 1 by Mercier. Volume 3 = 5 illus - 1 by Poiteau , 4 by Adrian Marcel. Volume 4 = 5 illus - 2 by Poiteau, 2 by Adrian Marcel, 1 by Mercier. Volume 5 = 4 illus - 2 by Poiteau, 2 by Adrian Marcel. Volume 6 = 4 illus - 1 by Mercier, 2 by Poiteau , 1 by Adrian Marcel. The Mysteries of Paris has 31 coloured 'etchings' in total: - Volume 1 = 7 illus - 1 Frontispiece Portrait of Eugene Sue by Bicknell, 2 by Adrian Marcel (after the drawings by Frank T. Merrill) , 1 by Adrian Marcel, 3 by Mercier (after the drawings by Frank T. Merrill) , . Volume 2 = 4 illus - 2 by Poiteau, 1 by Adrian Marcel, 1 by Adrian Marcel (after the drawing by Frank T. Merrill). Volume 3 = 6 illus - 2 by Mercier, 4 by Adrian Marcel. Volume 4 = 4 illus - 1 by Adrian Marcel, 1 by Adrian Marcel (after the drawing by Frank T. Merrill) , 2 by Mercier. Volume 5 = 5 illus - 1 by Poiteau, 3 by Adrian Marcel, 1 by Poiteau (states Porteau - but this is a misprint! ). Volume 6 = 5 illus - 3 by Mercier, 1 by Poiteau, 1 by Adrian Marcel. SEE IMAGES. The set is going to be very heavy to post, and will require extra postage - the price will depend on where in the world you are. Please ask for a shipping quote. ; Ex-Reference Library; 8vo .
