Representing more than 700 types of the objects found in the royal sepulchers of Mycenae and elsewhere in the excavations'. Good+. Brown cloth decorated in gilt, silver and black. Beveled edges, top edge gilt. Front hinge internally cracked; rubbing to lower edges and fraying to top and base of spine. Some sunning to spine. Bookplate. Internally clean, with some occasional ghosting from plates, and with the exception of cracked front hinge, internally sound. This would benefit from some restorative work, but it remains a handsome artifact in its own right. glass case.

'It is a spectacular book and was a roaring success... No one could overlook or ignore this book and as much as the discovery of Troy, this book was responsible in my opinion for Schliemann's immediate and lasting international fame' (Runnels).After Schliemann's spectacular discoveries at Troy in 1873 and the ensuing court case brought against him by Turkey, he was prevented from excavating in Troy for several years. In 1876 he turned his attention to Mycenae and carried out excavations on the site from August to November with the resulting discovery of 'Agamemnon's Treasure'. Runnels 1878a; Blackmer 1498.
