About This Item

London: Heinemann, 1936. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's green boards with gilt lettering to the spine. Frontispiece by S. H. Sime. Rather a pleasing copy. The book itself is near fine (just slight darkening to the edges of the front and rear end-papers). The dustwrapper is in VG+ condition with practically no loss apart from a couple of short tears (under 1cm) with the tips of the spine rubbed (but not frayed) and also dust-dulled particularly along the spine showing a couple of minor coffee coloured spots. Overall VG+ - near-Fine. No inscriptions. No book-plates. Unusually NOT heavily browned to the spine. A much nicer copy than usually encountered. N.B: probably the author's best-known book now thanks to the 2008 film adaptation directed by Toa Fraser and starring Sam O'Neill, Jeremy Northam, Peter O'Toole and Bryan Brown. The movie was longlisted for the 2009 BAFTA awards for Adapted Screenplay (Alan Sharp) and Supporting Actor (Peter O'Toole). Photographs/scans available upon request.
