First trade edition, signed by the author beneath Woodburytype frontispiece portrait of same. xvi, 312 pp. 8vo., dark green cloth stamped in gilt, black and blind, with angling vignette on front cover; t.e.g.. Beveled boards with light rubbing, minor corner wear. Gilt bright. Front hinge starting. A few small spots of wear to Woodburytype, with the crackling texture often seen in this process. 67 b/w woodcuts in the text by Edmund Evans after various artists. Text clean and tight. Preceded by a privately printed edition in 1876. Quite a pleasing copy.
