The poet's first work of fiction, a retelling of the brief Old Testament story of Elisha and the Shunamite woman, amplified into a series of dramatic encounters that elaborate Graves's unorthodox theory of the origins of primitive Judaism and the role of Moses in the cult's triumph over the other desert religions of the time.
