About This Item

London: Macmillan & Co Ltd , 1961. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good. 7.5" by 5". None. The fourth novel within Jane Duncan's 'My Friends' series, a semi-autobiographical group of books with various character studies, in a nicely illustrated and unclipped dust wrapper. First Edition. In a beautifully illustrated and unclipped dust wrapper, designed by Virginia Smith. 'My Friend Sandy' is the fourth book within Jane Duncan's 'My Friends' series. These novels are narrated by a woman named Janet Sandison as they follow her life from World War One to the 1960s. They are loosely based on Duncan's own life, as her protagonist shows how her crofting upbringing influenced her in the society that she lives in. Jane Duncan (1910-1976), also known as Elizabeth Jane Cameron, was a Scottish author. She is best known for her semi-autobiographical novels, though she also wrote a few children's books as well. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. A bit of fading to the edges of the spine, with minimal bumping to head and tail. Light spotting to text block. Prior owner's ink inscription to front endpaper, with the odd spot. Dust wrapper is very smart with a bit of age-toning and discolouration to wraps, including the reverse and fly leaves. Minimal chipping to edges, particularly the spine region. A closed tear to the left of fly leaves. Light spotting to reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Very Good Indeed
