Inscribed ("Compliments of") and signed by the poet on title page. Textblock square, some general wear to cover - rubbing, scuffing, scratches. Titles bright. Top edge gilt, interior bright, clean in tight binding. Text is unmarked. Erwin Clarkson Garrett (1879-1954)was a highly decorated U.S. Soldier (Decorated Order of Purple Heart, Silver Star (United States), regiment and division awarded the fourragère from French Government)
Poet states in his preface that first part of book is composed of army experiences when serving as a private during the "Philippine Insurrection" (1899-1902) serving in Companies L and G, 23rd US infantry and 5th U.S. Cavalry (both "Regulars"), followed by verses on various subjects.
