The uncommon first cheap edition of this work, published as part of Hodder and Stoughton's 'Sixpenny Novels' series.There were only twenty thousand copies of this edition printed, of which eighty percent were sold in Britain, and the other twenty percent were sold overseas. Before the trip Churchill agreed to profit from his travels, serialising articles in the Strand Magazine, and then publishing a bound expanded edition in 1908.With a library stamp for 'Govan Parish School Board' to the first leaf and final leaf.  Former owner's pencil inscriptions to the margins of pages 10-11. With the text printed in two columns.Publisher's adverts to the reverse of the title page and contents page, and four leaves of publisher's adverts to the rear.
