About This Item

UK,slim, small 8vo wraps,1st edn.FINE. No owner inscrptn and no price removal from colour scenic Dartmoor photographic illustrated rear, card cover. Bright,crisp,clean,glossy,sharp-cornered b/w+colour photographic front+rear card covers respectively, with white lettering to both, white spine/backstrip with black lettering; all with negligible shelf-wear,bumping, creasing to edges and corners - no nicks, tears or splits present.Top+fore-edges bright and clean; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - pristine - appears unread apart from my own collation.UK,slim, small 8vo wraps,1st edn,3-80 glossy pages [paginated] includes dedication, acknowledgements,a foreword, author's introduction,10 chapters, profuse contemporary b/w photographs - majority thumbnail size - interspersed throughout the text and book,a Postscript,a bibliography and as last page a potted biography with author's b/w portrait thumbnail photograph. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional, and even internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its age and nature, i.e. an ephemeral softback. It really is an exceptional example for its cleanliness and brightness. Dartmoor Prison, situated at the heart of the isolated moorland village of princetown,is one of the most infamous penal institutions in the world.many incidenats have occurred within its grim walls over its long, and chequered history - few more significant than the mutiny on 24th January,1932,when much of the fabric of the building was set ablaze by rioting prisoners. Over seventy years have now passed since the events on that terrible day unfolded, but at long last the details have been brought together in this single volume, shedding fresh light on the incident itself and the causes which led to it.No one book has been dedicated solely to the events of that sunny morning of 24th January,1932,although many concerning the prison, rightly refer to it.Dramatic accounts by the police and prison officers,as well as the actions of the convicts who risked their own lives to save those of their guards, show that men who fell they have been abandoned by society can stll respect authority. Please contact seller, because of the lighter weight of this item, for correct shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page! N.B. ALL buyers please note, stocks' actual shipping/P+p costs are adjusted and any difference is refunded, after order's receipt and before the order's despatch, especially if the item(s) are offered either P+p included/FREE. ** N.B.
