Cairo, 1960. Hardcover. Very good. Small quarto, 11 x 8 inches, cloth backed boards, very good, light wear and rubbing to boards, pages tanning, but clean and unmarked. Text in Arabic. The author was an Egyptian from a small town in the Nile delta, fl. early 15th century. Al-Ibsh h 's best known work is the Kit b al-Musta raf more fully known as Musta raf f kull fann musta raf ('A Quest for Attainment in Each Fine Art'). As characterised by the Encyclopædia Britannica, this was 'a very individual encyclopaedia ... that covered the Islamic religion, conduct, law, spiritual qualities, work, natural history, music, food, and medicine. At the turn of the Arab fortunes, al-Ibsh h had recapitulated all that was best in their culture'. Text in Arabic. Uncommon in the trade.
