Thurman Munson played his entire 11-year baseball career (1969-1979) as a catcher for the New York Yankees. He was team captain, and was awarded both Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards. He died at age 32 when the private plane he was piloting crashed. The author (formerly Yankees public relations director) explores Munson's relationships with teammates such as Lou Piniella, Bobby Murcer, Graig Nettles, and Reggie Jackson, as well as Munson's dealings with Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner.

Synopsis

Following his years as the Yankees’ PR director, Marty Appel became an Emmy Award–winning television producer and coauthored Munson’s bestselling autobiography, as well as a number of other books. Appel lives in New York City and appears frequently on YES Network, ESPN, MLB, and HBO.
