Biography based on the diaries of Munby, which he left to Trinity College, Cambridge, with instructions that they were not to be opened until 40 years after his death. Known as a barrister, bachelor, minor poet, and friend of some of Victorian London's most notable writers, including Swinburne, Rossetti, Browning and Thackerey, the diaries revealed a man fascinated with the lives of working class woman - and his secret marriage to a charwoman named Hannah. Illustrated with photographs and sketches by Munby. An appendix contains some poems by Munby. Bibliography, index. 461 pp
