About This Item

1959 Published by the Los Angeles Dodgers, 1959. First edition, first printing. Signed by 29 members of the 1959 Dodgers, including Sandy Koufax (HOF) (x2), Duke Snider (HOF) (x2), Larry Shelly, Walt Alston (HOF), Joe Becker, Chuck Dressen, Greg Mulleavy, Pee Wee Reese (HOF), Carl Furillo, Don Drysdale (HOF), Charlie Neal, Jim Gilliam, Gil Hodges, Clem Labine, Johnny Podres, Wally Moon, Don Zimmer, Don Demeter, Johnny Roseboro, Johnny Klippstein, Ron Fairly, Stan Williams, Joe Pignatano, Roger Craig, Norm Larker, "Rip" Repulski, Danny McDevitt, Frank Howard, and Maurice Morning (Koufax, Snider, and Shelly signatures are on front wrapper, with the rest of the signatures on corresponding profile pages inside the book). Publisher's pictorial wrappers, with illustration of a play at home plate to front wrapper, lettered in red, white, and blue, and Eastside Old Tap Lager advertisement to rear wrapper. Very good, with vertical crease down center, former owner's name and a squiggle mark in pen to rear wrapper, light soiling to rear wrapper, and a small closed tear to top edge of rear wrapper. Overall, a lovely copy, signed by the majority of the members of this iconic MLB team. This Los Angeles Dodgers Souvenir Year Book is filled with photographs, player and managerial profiles, and statistics for the World Series-winning 1959 Dodgers team. In just their second season after leaving Brooklyn, the team beat the Chicago White Sox 4-2 in the World Series, with pitcher Larry Shelly winning MVP honors. Sandy Koufax is one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history, with four World Series titles and three triple crowns (league leader in wins, strikeouts and ERA). Duke Snider won two World Series titles and earned six All Star selections. Pee Wee Reese was the "heart and soul" of the Dodgers, playing shortstop for the team from 1940 to 1958 (Hall of Fame Website). In his career, he was selected to 10 All-Star games and won two World Series titles (1955, 1959). He was one of the first players to publicly support Jackie Robinson's entrance into the MLB, and his support went a long way in mitigating the negativity that Robinson faced. Walt Alston is regarded as one of the all-time great managers, leading the Dodgers to four World Series titles, and Don Drysdale was a dominant pitcher, who earned nine All-Star selections and a Cy Young award in 1962. . Signed. First Edition. Original Wraps. Very Good.
