About This Item

Quarto 27.5x22 cm., wrappers, 16 pp. 5th printing. The story of a fly almost killed by a spider. Its' publication led to calls for banning the book, since many took the story as an allusion to the glorious leader Iosif Stalin, but the book was spared and continued to appear in different editions with some alterations. The present copy is in full color with illustrations by Vladimir Khodasevich. Kornei Chukovskii (1882-1969) is regarded as one of the most important authors of children's literature. Four institutional holdings in North America (Amherst, Harvard, Princeton, NYPL). A fine, bright copy
