About This Item
NYC Farrar Straus and Young (1952).,. Very Good/Unknown. Alfred Wagg, Photos. Large quarto, hardcover, gift note on endpaper else near fine, in edgeworn black dj. Frontis of Truman, thirty-second president of the United states, at his desk in the oval office. Illustrated by photos throughout. 1st edition. A two term US Senator from Missouri serving from 1935-1945, Harry S. Truman (1884-1972) was, after less than three months as Vice-President, sworn-in as thirty-third President of the United States on April 12, 1945 upon the death of Franklin Roosevelt, and, of course, after winning the 1948 election, continued in office for the term ending January 20, 1953. Truman insisted that the split terms of Grover Cleveland should not be counted as two presidencies and thus favored being referred to as the 32nd US President.
