About This Item
London: George Allen and Unwin. 1982. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Original pictorial boards, in dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout in colour by the author. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the extremities very lightly rubbed and bumped. The endpapers have some faint dustiness and the bottom corners of a few early pages are very lightly creased, the contents are otherwise bright and clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper that has a few light marks and is a touch faded at the spine. A whimsical caper involving a "girabbit", three teddy bears, and a lot of cabbages written and illustrated by J. R. R. Tolkien for his children in the 1930s and published here for the first time, reproducing Tolkien's handwritten manuscript and illustrations alongside a typed transcript. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.
Synopsis
Mr. Bliss's first outing in his new motor-car, shared with several friends, bears, dogs, and a donkey, though not the Girabbit, proves to be unconventional though not inexpensive.
