About This Item

Beaverton: Kahuna Books, 2014. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. New/New. Lon Haverly. 2014 FIRST PRINTING of First Edition. NEW condition book in NEW condition dust jacket, purchased directly from the publisher. Never used, handled, or read, this example of the book comes straight from the publisher's shipping box. The book is clean, no marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, sharp corners, no fading, solid binding: new condition. The original dust jacket has no tears, no rubbing, no loss, no fading, complete with original price printed on rear flap: new condition. The book measures 235mm tall x 155mm, and has 379 pages + [2], 16 b/w photos on plates, b/w frontispiece photo, 4 b/w route photos, 39 b/w drawings, 38 small b/w chapter heading photos, glossary, large bibliography, index. This is the first detailed history of the pioneering climbing period on Mt Hood when many of the more difficult routes and variations on the mountain were first climbed. The author interviewed all of the old timers that he could track down and carried out extensive research of archives, creating here a history not just of the climbing but of the climbers and the environment of the time. This also covers the creation of the first Ski Patrol on Mt Hood and organization of the first mountain rescue units. There is plenty of history here: hilarious episodes long forgotten, animals, accidents, storms, skiing, discovery.
