Description:
Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press, 2004. Perfect-bound, [octavo], in illustrated wraps, 572 pp. Near fine, wraps lightly edge worn.. Cover art by Ricardo Morin/Rob Stephenson. Originally published in 1988, the memoir of Samuel Delany begins in the late 1950s following his father's passing and his early pursuits of a writing career after receiving a work scholarship based on the merit of his early manuscripts. He soon meets Marilyn Hacker while attending City College of New York and after their second sexual experiment, she became pregnant and the couple moves to the lower east of Manhattan in the early 1960s. The rest of the memoir is titled 'the peripheries of love' detailing his sexual adventures cruising the bath houses, streets and times square theaters coupled with the transgressive genesis of ideas through the 1980s which would craft his writing and become some the finest criticism, essays, memoir, and science fiction of the 20th century.
