Inigo Jones - Antiquity of Great Britain, [4], 72 pp, 14 plates (including 7 large folding), printer fault at R2 page numbering p63. 92.) (2.) Walter Charleton - Chorea Gigantum, [10], 48, 2 plates. (3.) John Webb - A Vindication of Stone-Heng Restored, [6], 228 pp, [13] index, 11 plates (some small). Frontis & title of Great Britain laid down, 1 pagination error, some light water stain at head margin to last 25 leaves, 27 headers, footers & initial letters, book label to fpd (David W Phillipson), ink name to tp & ink initials to text block edge (WM). (348*224 mm). (Harris 384; RIBA 1628; Upcott III, 1317-1320; Wing J954). Jones' hypothesis of the Roman origin of Stonehenge, & the first publication of Charleton's critical response to this, suggesting that the stones were erected by Danes. In the present work, Webb replies in kind, with a robust defence of Jones - which was not surprising considering Webb edited & saw the first edition of 1655 through the press.
