New York: Doubleday & Company, 1946. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. 8vo., 277pp. Sharp Stated First Edition of this story of two women making their way in and around the theaters and nightclubs of New York City. Bound in maroon cloth with titles in gilt on spine. Square, tight and clean throughout with just a touch of page edge-toning and very mild wear to spine ends. Attractive unclipped dust-jacket, ($2.50), has some chipping to spine ends and tips and rubbing to hinges. Spine panel toned. A couple of closed edge-tears. Sticker remnant on front flap. Still bright and complete. Fascinating inscription on the front end-paper. To commemorate the opening of the Broadway Musical "Grand Hotel", based on the book written by Baum, the production's Musical Supervisor Wally Harper, who contributed original music to the score, is writing to Musical and Vocal Director Jack Lee, on the night of the Broadway Premier, "For Jack - a saga of Broadway by our 'original' author, herself, for Mr. Broadway, himself - the most brilliant Musical Director on Broadway now or Ever! Without your guidance and Love I never would have know(sic) 'Why?!' You are simply the best there is. Have a Passionately Successful Stay at 'Grand Hotel!' Love, Walter. 11/12/89." A sharp collectable copy and a wonderful association and snapshot of Broadway History.
