London: Printed for G. G. and J. Robinson, Paternoster-Row, 1800. Hardcover. Fair. First edition. Three volumes. Octavos. [2], ii, 403pp; [2], ii, 408pp; [2], ii, 460pp. Contemporary half calf and marbled paper boards, gilt spines, marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. Engraved armorial bookplate of Charles Wyndham on each pastedown. (in vols. 1 and 3, the name only is crossed out in ink). Boards are rubbed, joints and corners are worn with some chipping at the head and tail of the spines, endpapers moderately toned and foxed, else very good overall with some occasional light foxing. The fore-edge of two leaves in vol. 3 are partly untrimmed. The first edition of John Moore's final novel, published when he was seventy-one. A sound set, most likely from the library of Charles Wyndham (1796-1866), the fifth son of George Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont, and Member of Parliament for West Sussex from 1841 to 1847. *ESTC* T57357.
