Astronauts Shepard and Slayton tell the compelling story of America's race to the Moon, beginning in 1961 when Shepard became the first American to fly in space and ending on July 20, 1969 when Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the Moon. The roots of the first Moon landing are found in the Mercury Program where seven astronauts lead the way to the first Moon landing and those that followed.
