Philadelphia and Toronto : The John C. Winston Company, 1947. First editon, 1947. Suitable for older children and adults. Nineteen chapters include the histories of sailing, steamships and battleships; undersea ships; famous shipwrecks; floating lighthouses, harbors and harbor men, language of the sea, among other subjects. Sea green cloth with blindstamp decoration, heavy silver gilt lettering, illustrated endpaper, illustrated title and contents pages, 313 pages with extensive index, illustrated dustjacket. The book is in very good condition with rubbed corners and lightly frayed spine ends, small dampstains at either end of the spine, pencil-eraser sized bleached spot at mid-rear cover, additional light overall surface rubbing. The mylar protected dustjacket is priceclipped and is in fair condition with heavy wear, a large spine chip with the title missing, other chips and tears, about five percent paper loss overall.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
