An extensive collection of historical, political, social, and sea street ballads, replete with numerous in-text illustrations. An extensive collection of street ballads from English history, particularly those of social, political, humorous, and historical nature. Also including sea ballads, country ballads, ballads relating to Queen Anne, and other miscellaneous ballads. The first edition of this work. Compiled by John Ashton, author of Social Life in the Reign of Queen Anne. Including an illustrated frontispiece protected by a tissue guard, and a further fifty-five in-text illustrations. Containing thirty-two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. Externally, smart, with some light shelf wear to the boards. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Internally, hinges are strained and binding is slightly tender. Pages are generally bright and clean. Very Good
