Spine is split at front gutter and has been repaired with a plasticized tape. Label on spine. Spine ends are worn and frayed. The corners are worn through. All edges are rubbed. Fairly light scratches and rub wear to both boars. Gift inscription on front free endpaper dated 1951. Otherwise, the inside pages are generally clean and bright, with occasional smudge marks. Seven stories, each featuring a different mode of transport or machinery; including a fire engine, automobile, switch engine, airplane, power shovel, tractor, and motorboat. A new edition, featuring the bright and bold illustrations in colour and monochrome by Paul Pinson. .

Illustrated boards are bright, rubbed along bottom edge, bottom tip bumped, split for about 4" along rear spine fold, owner name on front free endpaper; otherwise internally very nice, clean and tight. Dust jacket is rubbed along flap folds, has small chips ends of spine panel, a 1 1/2" tear top of rear panel, and an area bottom of rear panel next to fore edge where the colour of the paper has peeled off; but colour is bright and displays well. First edition with the Pinson illustrations; 72 pages.. Hard Cover in Dust Jacket. Very Good Plus/Very Good. Illus. by Paul Pinson.

Front cover illustrated with "Modern Transportation Vehicles", a plane, a car and two types of train engines. Rear board has a cartoon "digger" down in a hole. Illustrated endpapers with more transportation items of the day. Several full-page illustrations as well as many smaller illustrations throughout the text. Stories include: "The Fire Engine That Grew Too Old"; "The Lazy Automobile"; "The Sad Little Switch Engine"; "The Plane That Tried to Fly to the Sun"; "The Hungry Power Shovel"; "The Tractor That Took a Holiday"; and, "The Motorboat That Went to School". Anybody remember this one? Dust Jacket has the same illustrations as the book but the front flap has 3 young boys on it and they appear in 2 of the actual stories as well.
