The original price of $3.50 is still present on the front flap. DJ is toned with some spotting. Edges show numerous tears scuffing, with a large tear measuring about 2 inches on the rear of the jacket. Paper covered boards underneath shows a moderate amount of foxing spots, mainly on the outside edges spine. Corners show bumps in the left bottom corner of the front board has a small tear in the paper board, measuring about one half of an inch. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no scribbling, nothing torn or loose. Although this story was written in the 1830s, the publisher (Charles Scribner's Sons) as this listed as a first edition on the copyright page. The publishers colophon is at the bottom and the telltale "A" is present, which was Scribner's way of identifying a first edition at the time. Pages are clean with only very minimal scattered foxing spots and a light bump to the upper outside corners. The end pages and pastedowns show quite heavier foxing though.
