Glasgow: Bryce, David, & Son, 1905. Five miniature volumes. (127); (127); (240); (384); (127)pp. The volumes included are: Golden Thoughts from Great Authors; Witty, Humorous, and Merry Thoughts; Robert Burns' Poems, Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect; The Smallest English Dictionary in the World; and Old English, Scotch, and Irish Songs. The five books fit into a wooden box, lacquered with a tartan pattern, that contains six compartments and a glass-paned lid. One compartment has a portrait of Robert Burns with a magnifying glass that fits over it. Surrounding the portrait are the title, Mite Series in Tartan, and the publisher's information. Bryce published this set with various combinations of books. All five volumes are bound in red roan wrappers gilt-stamped with the titles on the front covers. The dictionary shows some slight chipping to the front free endpaper and frontispiece page. The bottom of the box is slightly warped and the lacquer is chipped in spots. Only two institutional copies of the set are recorded, each with different combinations of books. An uncommon set in the desirable tartan box. (Bondy, pp. 72 & 113; Garbett, pp. 25-27). (1 by 3/4; 25x19mm).

(Watertown, MA): Anne and David Bromer, 1977. Kunikata-Cockram, Midori. (24)pp. The text is printed on Japanese paper with ornamentation in green. Wood engravings by Sarah Chamberlain, as her first miniature book commission. This is the first miniature book published by the Bromers. Midori Kunikata-Cockram captures the whimsical nature of the text, which was the first English poem for children intended for sheer amusement. The front and rear boards of her designer binding are covered with parchment, on which the artist has hand-drawn the insects and small animals attending the feast amongst a pattern of vines and flowers in crimson ink. Delicate onlays of black morocco create the silhouette of a vine climbing up the book's burgundy morocco spine. Inside, endpapers printed with oak leaves and cut-out leaves with hand-drawn shading in pastel reference the oak tree in the poem, beneath which the revels were held. Housed in a suede-lined box, the exterior of which is covered with paper hand-tooled in a…

Description:
Boston: Museum of Fine Arts (Boston). Very Good+ with no dust jacket. 1961. Booklet. Light crease at the spine of the front cover. ; A humorous tale of a crow or raven who successively, page after page, drinks and drains numerous glasses of spirits until its view of the world blurs, it stands, then falls on its back. Told wordlessly, with drawings only, and the story line is obvious. The stylized head and beak of the bird reoccur in Steinlen's book illustrations of crows and vultures. Swiss-born, creative polymath Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen (1859-1923) was painter, fabric designer, sculptor, periodical publisher, printmaker, and illustrator. Renowned for his turn-of-the-century, Art Nouveau-style, Steinlen produced drawings of Parisian street life, depicting average working-class people, actors, vendors, prostitutes, the upper class out of their element, criminals, and families, all in the urban environment. He was equally known for his many drawings of cats in both natural…
