Illustrated with fold-out map (12.25 x 15.75 in.) entitled "The Little Falls of the Spokane by W.W. Johnson". Contemporary brown cloth calf with frame and floral design decoratively stamped in blind to front and back. Spine rebacked with sympathetic calf. White tape repair at hinges of front and rear pastedowns. No preliminary pages. Bottom corner of page 53/54 Three inch open tear to pp. 53-54. The report includes an account by P.M. Engle of the Topographical Engineers regarding a reconnaissance from the Saint Regis River (a tributary of Clark's Fork) to Fort Benton in Fall, 1859, and from Fort Benton to Fort Owen during the winter of 1860. Howes M883. Wagner-Camp 378 .

Also a report by De Lacy. The map is "Sketch of The Little Falls of the Spokane by W. W. Johnson C. Eng. 1860 Under direction of Lt. Jno. Mullan U.S.A." (26.3x36.5 cm).
