This book has everything one wants in a good read: A mystery, a terrific and unique geographical place, amazing and eccentric characters and a very well written story told by an excellent narrator and observer. Plus it is based on real events which if this were fiction--would seem unbelievable. The movie is a pale echo so do read the book and only see the movie for Lady Chablis's appearance.
