About This Item

Published as a Special Bulletin of the Department of Zoology and Physiology of the Michigan Agricultural College. Printed brown wrappers, large thick octavo, pp. xiv, 822. Perfect with the 70 full-page plates called for. The brown paper wrappers are intriguing, not of a high quality, almost as though they constitute an advance copy. Nicks along wrapper peripheries. Top of spine has eroded somewhat, and bottom of spine is reinforced with old tape. Ownership signature of Magel Craig Wilder, former Biology Professor at Brown Women's College, at top edge of free front endpaper. A previous owner (not verified as Wilder) has left a delightful amount of ephemera within: there are several old newspaper clippings; a few leaflets ("How the Bird Helps the Farmer" and "What is the Audubon Society?" e.g.); an Audubon "Nighthawk" card from the "50 Summer Birds of Eastern North America" boxed set; Audubon Society educational leaflet (No. 129, Oven-Bird). Previous owner has also written title/author information in black marker on the book's wide spine. Book has been consulted frequently and has the odd crease and page tip curl. Withal, GOOD and sound and a tome if ever there was one.
