About This Item

New York: Harry N. Abrams, Incorporated, 1990. First edition. Hardcover. VG+/VG+ (removed from publisher's wrap to inspect; creasing to lower dustjacket corner). Black cloth over boards with gilt lettering and illus. French fold white dj with bw illus and lettering. 296 pp. 27 color, 273+ bw plates. "Since the introduction to the public of the first mezzotint print in 1642, the medium has continued to grow and change, yet a comprehensive illustrated history of the form had never been written. Moreover, there had not existed a complete instructional guide to the technique of making mezzotints, from "rocking" a mezzotint plate to inking and printing a finished work of art. This book fills both voids." - from dj flap. Signed and dated by the author, October 1990.
