About This Item

Washington, DC: A.O.P. Nicholson, 1856. Hardcover. Small 4to. Ornately blind-embossed brown cloth with front board gilt lettering. 251pp. Good plus. Binding rubbed and a bit edgeworn (more so at spine head/tail); endpapers typically age toned and text block lightly to moderately age toned throughout, with occasional foxing and touch of dampstaining. Tight, decent copy of Executive Document No. 350, issued by the first session of the 34th congress of the Senate. This collection of official communications concerns charges that Great Britain used agents in the U.S. to enlist American citizens as soldiers for the Crimean War. Contributors include, in addition to President Pierce, secretary of state William L. Marcy and Lord Clarendon.
