About This Item
Richmond, VA: Confederate States of America, Navy Department, 1865. First. None. VG+. Not disbound, a stand alone publication. No covers. See Pictures. 12 pages./None.. CONFEDERATE IMPRINT.
Parrish & Willingham 1684.
Multiple communications by the Secretary of the Navy Mallory and Governor Vance of North Carolina concerning the supposed stealing of the Welsh coal meant for the steamer Advance by Confederate Navy personnel. This forced the Advance (ship belonging to North Carolina) to fuel with substandard North Carolina coal which caused her be captured by the Federals because her capabilities were halved. Seems there could be better things to argue about this late in the War.
However, there are tabulations in the letter detailing the prizes captured in 1864 by the Confederate steamers Tallahassee and Chickamauga. The Tallahassee was a very successful steamer that year. She burnt 16 and scuttled another 10 vessels.
