Endpapers lightly foxed. Doctored ex-library with embossed stamp for Ellsworth, ME City Library on title page. Paper labels successfully removed from spine, with trace of shadow. Spine is otherwise evenly sunned, and lightly dulled. Front board also evenly sunned. Gilt titling is clear, text is good+. Head and top edge of front board are worn. Text is good+. Podmore provides in depth historical narrative of the tradition of mental faith healing. He follows French developments from Mesmer, through the French Commissions and into England and Germany in great detail, as the shift into the predominance of prophecy, revelation and spiritualism culminate in the work of Mary Baker Eddy.
