About This Item

London: Chatto & Windus, 1901. Tenth Edition . Half Leather. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. From the family library of author Maxwell Laurie (brother of the publisher, Thomas Werner Laurie) and his wife Marjorie (daughter of the governor of Burma, Sir Herbert Thirkell White) with Laurie's 1905 inscription to front blank. Finely bound, early edition of Robert Louis Stevenson's (1887) collection of sixteen essays; the first eleven consisting of personal memories and portraits of family and friends, making this the nearest thing to an autobiography published by Stevenson. Bound in half brown leather with five raised bands, gilt titling and floral decoration to spine. Pretty brown and pink marbled boards, endpapers and page edges. Light wear to leather including a small tear to bottom corner of upper board. Contents clean without inscriptions or foxing. 299 pp. Additional photos available on request. All orders professionally packed, tracked and/or signed-for, and insured.
