London: Printed by his Majesty's Authority, for the Author, 1745. First Edition. Two volumes. Engraved portrait frontispiece of Pope to each volume and 12 further engraved portraits of Joseph Addison, Arabella Fermer, the Duke of Buckingham, Bishop Atterbury, Nicholas Rowe, Colley Cibber, Martha Blount, the Earl of Burlington, the Duchess of Marlborough, John Gay, Dean Swift, & Lord Bolingbroke. 8vo, pp. xii:340:(12, index) & (6):389:(7, index), contemporary calf, joints and extremities rubbed, headbands a little chipped, lacking lettering pieces. Upper joint of volume 1 cracked but firm. With the engraved armorial bookplates of Sir Robert Eden Bart (1717-1755). Rare. Authorship is sometimes attributed to Edmund Curll.
